In this paper I bring you an outline of a new model of provision of family services for vulnerable children, youth and families in my home state of Victoria in Australia. We have recently reviewed our old legislation and now have the Child and Young Persons Act 2005 and have moved from an old model of the provision of family services on a government funded but fragmented model of community developed services to a statewide government funded early intervention system called ChildFIRST.

Site Visit: Neville Street Barnardos Project
The Neville Street Service offers a range of supports to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and families from BME communities in Cardiff. The support services offered include Stay & Play sessions and Family Workshops for pre-school children and their parents, after school activities for older children, Girls’ Group for teenage girls and Family Support to children and families referred by the Local Authority. All of the services are underpinned by the provision of language support via an Interpreter Service which currently covers 19 community languages.
